For the better part of the decade my pant options have been either two things, a pair of slim black sweatpants, and black denim. In the slim fit everything world we were living in, these were the two pairs of pants to own. But this trend is fading, and becoming increasingly BASIC. These days a head to toe slim outfit has now become the pumpkin spice latte of menswear fits. Things are loosening up in men’s fashion. Baggy no longer carries the stigma of being sloppy or showing no effort. Rather, wearing a pair now means you got the drip. While the looser fitting pant revolution has not convinced the average bro to convert, the time is now for this Blog Boy to embrace them. When you are use to wearing a certain silhouette for many years, any changes to it can feel drastic. As much as I wanted to, I just could not will myself into a pair of exaggerated baggy pants. It’s too wide of a jump. I needed training wheels. Enter a pair of straight cut trousers.

Trousers, suit pants, whatever the hell you want to call them have largely been forgotten. Ever since the decline of the suit, our preference for pants that sat on our natural waistline quickly became irrelevant as well. For anyone that is tired of thigh hugging pants, these are the perfect pants to untrain your dependence on slim fit. Life is possible, and even more breezy with looser fitting pants. I started with a black straight cut pair, and didn’t really miss my denim or sweatpants all that much. Sure it takes some time getting used to wearing pants that sit higher up on your waist, but it’s quickly a thing of the past once you factor in the comfort of wearing a pair of soft wool pants that have this effortless sway to them as you walk.
